Did Altona areas meet its Annual Rainfall average 2024?
Hello all,
It’s the start of another hectic year; hope you all had a great break and Happy New Year to everyone!
According to sources like BOM and AccuWeather, Melbourne was hypothesized to have a wet summer, which didn’t go to our plan so far!
Though Oct, Nov and Dec 2024 tried it’s best and gave us a 58.5mm, 69.8mm and 33.9mm monthly rainfall respectively, unfortunately we were not able to beat the yearly average of 534.3mm by a thin margin of 9.75mm, recording 524.55mm for the year! Still, much better considering it was predicted to be a dry year!
PRO TIP!
You can check the individual year, month and/or day’s records – all the way back from 18/06/2018 in this Rain website dedicated to Altona North!!
THE RAIN CYCLE also known as the water cycle, is a natural process that circulates water between the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere. It begins with evaporation, where water from oceans, rivers, and lakes turns into vapor and rises into the atmosphere. This water vapor then cools and forms clouds through condensation. When the clouds become heavy, the water falls back to Earth as precipitation in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Once the water reaches the ground, it flows over the land as runoff. Runoff collects in rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water, eventually returning to the oceans. This continuous cycle ensures that water is always moving and being recycled, maintaining a balance in the Earth’s water supply.
